I am a sucker for anything Apple

Friday, January 8th, 2010

Yes, I am one of those crazy Apple faithful, though not as crazy as I once was. Say what you will about Apple, but you must agree that they have some of the best marketing out there, on par with the VW Beetle ads of the seventies. I love that they can essentially take the same computer from last season, trim a half an inch off the edge (giving the illusion it's thinner) and make me tweet stuff like:

"I'm not saying the the new iMac is sexy, but if it had a leg, I'd be humping it..."

In 1984, my Dad bought the first Macintosh model and I found there was a computer with which I could create pictures. It was easy to use and I didn't have to know a lick of code. Pretty sweet.

iMacThe first Mac I ever owned was not an Apple. In fact it was a Power Computing Mac Clone that ran at a screaming 200mhz! I wasn't only part of the "Mac Subculture" I was a subculture of that subculture- see how edgy and "with it" I was? Sticking it to the man!

Have your eyes glazed over yet? WAKE UP! There's so much to tell you about how Jobs retook Apple, punked the clones, brought in the iMac, the iPod, converted to Intel and ushered in the era of the smartphone with the iPhone. And, no- the Blackberry wasn't a smartphone, it was just a phone you could read your email on (Blackberry geeks are as sad as Amiga geeks).

The history of Microsoft and Apple is wonderfully depicted in the movie, "The Pirates of Silicon Valley." It's one hell of a story, a little over the top, but very entertaining. GET IT and WATCH IT!

People often ask "Is a Mac better than Windows?" I usually tell them that it depends on what you started on. If you started on a Mac, it seems smarter, friendlier and less evil than Windows. If you started on Windows, a Mac is confusing and makes you realize how empty your black soul has been, and that is why you hate Macs. So, if you want to know if you should buy a Mac, I ask you, that depends, do you love Jesus?

EGF: I actually volunteered got paid to sell Macs at Sears one afternoon back in 1999.
